Why Use RDP in Concrete

Bisley InternationalFAQs

Dry-mix formulations are essential for transporting and keeping cement mortar in a ready-to-use state. Producing mortar from dry cement mixtures often requires the addition of water. Generally, dry mix cement formulations usually consist of readily dispersible polymer (RDP) powder additives to enhance the properties of cement mortar resulting from the combination of water and dry-mix formulations.

Common RDP Adhesives

FAR Polymer’s produce Neolith, a high-quality range of RDPs, which help improve bonding, adhesion, flexural strength, workability, and fluid-loss and gas migration properties in cementitious materials.

These RDP products are easily dispersed in water and form stable emulsions. These RDPs are primarily composed of vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) and copolymers of VAE, as well as a vinyl ester of versatic acid. Furthermore, Neolith has a variety of polymers for every application, from polymers that help concrete set in freeze and thaw cycles to stamped concrete mold release agents and those that improve adhesion in gypsum adhesives and lime paint. They are useful in the application of admixtures by improving the strength and flexibility of the mortar.

The dry-mix industry continuously desires to better mortar properties and improve end-user performance of cement mortar. It is also desirable to cut the set time of mortar to enable operators to shift from the application of mortar to the subsequent phases more quickly, improving productivity.

It also helps reduce the water load required to achieve maximum mortar properties and minimize colloidal stabilizers added to RDP additives as they can potentially affect the performance of the RDP in improving mortar properties.

Modern inventions provide a combination of RDPs that play a key role in developing dry-mix cement formulations that form a mortar that offers the best performance. Thus, the mortar will have a longer open time, increased tensile strength, decreased set time, and require a lower water load..

While RDP is popularly used in the building and construction industry to prepare building materials, it can also be used in tile adhesive applications. RDPs help improve workability, impact resistance, water retention, and slump retention. They can also enhance the leveling power of tile adhesives and other building materials.

Order RDP Adhesives at Bisley International

Bisley International offers an extensive range of FAR Polymers Neolith redispersible polymers, including vinyl-acetate (P1550G) and acrylic copolymers (PK) vinyl-versatate copolymers (P5000, P4400T, and P3800), and others. A major concern is that the VAM shortage has reduced the availability and skyrocketed the cost of various RDPs.

However, at Bisley, we are working closely with FAR Polymers to mitigate these issues and supply the market. Please contact us for more information on chemistries, applications, and grades. Cehck out our range of Drymix Cement & Concrete Products.
